Double Filtration Plasmapheresis (DFPP)

Technology for blood plasma filtration and detoxification (Plasmapheresis)

It’s a procedure involving the separation and removal of plasma from blood in order to remove a disease substance circulating in the plasma. The red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets are returned to the patient, along with a prescribed plasma replacement.

Why is plasma filtration required?
Because the plasma in each individual's body has amassed toxins, inflammatory substances, and germs, which might impact one's overall health in the long run. We believed in early prevention and proactive on healthy longevity. Would it be preferable if Vitallife had technology to assist in the removal of harmful or toxic substances from your plasma? It is similar to a blood detoxification to eliminate toxins for greater health.

Plasmapheresis Procedure

Plasmapheresis is performed at Gemini Clinic using the Double Filtration Plasmapheresis (DFPP) procedure, which is a method of purifying blood by removing toxins such as virus infections, allergens, and antibodies, as well as waste products and inflammatory wastes, fat, cholesterol, and other contaminants.

The procedures will be performed by a team of specialist nurses who will collect the patient's blood in the arm for the unhealthy plasma to be filtered out, which then will be combined with the red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets that were initially isolated and restored back into the body without any blood loss. Before the nurses can restore good plasma into the patient's body, the nurses may supply a substitute called albumin protein back as well.

The overall processes will take approximately 2.5 - 4 hours to complete in duration. The length of treatment will depend on body size and amount of plasma that needs to be exchanged.

(Note: Up to 60% of the total protein in the bloodstream is made up of albumin, a protein that is created by the liver and released into the bloodstream. It contributes significantly to the body's ability to maintain fluid equilibrium in the blood, nourish bodily tissues, and carry nutrients including vitamins, minerals, and hormones throughout the body).

Who is Plasmapheresis suitable for?

  • Individuals with autoimmune diseases that cause their own organs to be destroyed, such as Rheumatoid arthritis, SLE Blister disease (Pemphigus), and a group of neurological conditions such Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) and Myasthenia Gravis

The results after doing Plasmapheresis
  • It eliminates accumulated toxins such as virus infections, allergens, and antibodies,
as well as waste products and inflammatory wastes, fat, cholesterol, and other
contaminants that are present in the bloodstream.

  • Aid in the prevention of various diseases and the speedier recovery from them.

How frequently should Plasmapheresis be performed?
It is decided by the physical state of the person and a professional doctor's assessment. In general, it is advised to have plasma filtration once a year if an individual is in healthy condition without any chronic diseases, however if any individuals need it more frequently to treat a disease, it will depend on the underlying condition they have.

Preparation for Plasmapheresis treatment

  • Refrain from drinking water or eating any type of food after 8 p.m. the night before plasma filtration to prepare for morning blood collection, unless the patient has had a blood test and has previously consulted a doctor at Vitallife, in which case restricting water or food before plasma filtration may not be necessary, depending on the doctor's permission whether to draw blood before plasma filtration or not.
  • The patient should get at least 6-8 hours of sleep before the treatment.
  • If the patients are taking any medications or supplements, please notify the doctor.
  • If the patients are sick, such as with the flu or a cold, plasma filtering should be postponed until they have recovered.

Complications that may arise in some cases

  • Experiencing bruising, swelling, infection and bleeding at vascular access area.
  • Hypotension as a result of blood being transported to the filter outside the body.
  • Edema develops when the pressure of water in the blood vessels decreases.
  • Platelet depletion
  • Complications from plasma transfusions, including arrhythmias, numbness and
tingling, and bleeding which are brought on by the anticoagulants used.
  • During plasma transfusions, patients may experience fever, chills, or a mild rash.

 Contraindications

  • Plasmapheresis may not be appropriate for people with certain blood clotting
disorders, patients in the state of shock or hypotension.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should one practice self-care after receiving the service?

  • After undergoing lymphatic exchange procedure, it is important for the patient to
take a rest for a period of time. Once they have returned home, it is recommended
for the patient to follow these guidelines to promote a smooth recovery of the
  body:

  • Refrain from consuming hot food or beverages for a minimum of 3 hours after
plasma transfusion. This precaution is necessary as hot food has the potential to
dilate blood vessels and induce dizziness in individuals who have recently
  undergone a lymphatic transplant.

  • Avoid direct exposure to sunlight and hot weather on the day of the treatment.
  • Abstain from taking hot baths and using saunas on the treatment day.
  • To minimize the risk of excessive bleeding, it is advised to avoid shaving, trimming
facial hair, or clipping nails for a duration of 4-6 hours following plasma transfusion.
  • In most cases, hospitalization is necessary for Lymph Transplants due to the
potential complications involved, as well as the requirement of aortic tube insertion
which carries the risk of becoming obstructed.

How long will it take to see visible results?

  • As this treatment focuses on internal care for disease prevention, harmful
substances can be promptly eliminated from the body after the procedure is
        completed.

Is it permissible to undergo the examination directly, or is it required to see a doctor prior to receiving the service?

  • It is obligatory for all individuals receiving the service to seek a doctor's consultation
prior to the service being provided.
